Need Help Choosing? Here Are the Questions We Hear Most

What is a dimmer switch?

A dimmer switch allows you to adjust the brightness of compatible light fixtures by regulating the electrical current. This enables better ambiance, energy savings, and lighting flexibility.

Are all bulbs dimmable?

No. Only bulbs labelled “dimmable” will work properly with a dimmer. Some LEDs and CFLs cannot be dimmed and may flicker or fail if used with a dimmer.

Can Buster + Punch dimmers be used with LED bulbs?

Yes. Buster + Punch dimmers are compatible with many dimmable LED bulbs, provided they fall within the dimmer’s wattage range. For best results, use high-quality dimmable LEDs or Buster + Punch’s own LED bulbs.

What is the difference between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimmers?

  • Leading-edge dimmers are typically used for incandescent and halogen lighting.
  • Trailing-edge dimmers are often the best match for dimmable LEDs, offering smoother, quieter performance.

What is a 3-way dimmer?

A 3-way dimmer allows you to dim the lights from one location and turn them on or off from another. It must be paired with a compatible 3-way switch or toggle module.

Can dimmers be used with fans or motors?

No. Dimmers are not designed for fans, motors, or other inductive loads. Using a dimmer on a fan can damage the dimmer or the motor. Use a fan-rated control instead.

Are Buster + Punch dimmers compatible with smart lighting systems?

Buster + Punch dimmers are not smart devices and do not connect directly to apps or home automation platforms. However, they can be used with certain smart control modules or with smart bulbs (left at full brightness). Always check system compatibility with an electrician.

Do dimmers need to be installed by an electrician?

Yes. Dimmers involve more wiring considerations than standard switches. A licensed electrician should perform the installation to ensure safe and proper operation.
